We convert Super 8 & 8mm films to digital files utilising a computerised frame-by-frame capture process after first cleaning the film and making any necessary minor repairsAfter conversion, some further basic processing may occur to improve image and colour.  However, final quality will depend to a large degree on the quality of material provided.  We can provide the converted video on DVD, Blu-Ray and/or as digital files.  Masters of DVDs and Blu-Rays are provided on 1000 year M-Discs any additional copies can be provided on the same highly durable disks or standard DVDs or Blu-Rays. Digital files can also be provided on Hard Disk Drive, 1000 year M-Disc (up to 100Gb Blu-Ray) or other storage media.

The conversion of film to digital files is carried out utilising a computerised frame-by-frame capture procedure as illustrated in the diagram to the left. This provides for a more stable image when viewing with minimal or no flickering.  The process involves the camera zooming in on the aeriel image that appears in the condenser lens. There is no screen. The lens of the projector and the lens of the camera combined with the telecine unit's condenser lens creates one gigantic lens that provides a microscopic view of the surface of the film.  This can be seen as effectively shooting a magnified view of the gate or projecting an image directly onto the CCD of the camera.  The Synch Mouse is the key to how the telecine unit interfaces with the computer edit system. A computer program is used to perform stop motion capture. Using stop motion capture, each time the left mouse button is clicked, a separate frame will be captured and added to an ever-expanding movie file on the hard drive that can be played just like any other movie file created with the video camera. So that the mouse doesn't have to be clicked for each frame, the Synch Mouse has a cord that connects it to a small microswitch in the telecine unit, which effectively clicks the mouse on each frame. The projector is capable of advancing the film one frame at a time and the video camera is actually looking at the surface of the film for maximum image quality. Each time a new frame comes up in the gate of the projector, the micro switch closes and "presses" the left mouse button automatically, which commands the computer to capture that frame of movie film and write it to the drive of the computer. Then, the film advances and the same thing happens for the next frame, and the next and the next and so on, for hundreds, even thousands of frames. The end result is that each frame of your movie will exist on a separate
frame of video on your hard drive. Then the playback rate of those frames can be determined by using software for virtually flicker free movies on video with clarity edge to edge and zero hot spot.
